Please take a moment to read this to the end.

Are You Good Enough To Get To Heaven?

But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you... Isaiah 59:2

God created man to have a relationship with Him.  He gave man the freedom to make choices.  God’s desire was for man to choose obedience.

Man chose his own path over God’s plan.  Man’s choice of self-willed disobedience is called sin in the Bible.

God’s Word tells us that every one of us has made the choice to disobey God in one way or another.

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  Romans 3:23

For there is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin.  Ecclesiastes 7:20

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Romans 6:23

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:  Romans 5:12

God is holy and just by His very nature.  Because of His nature, He cannot overlook the sins that you and I have committed against Him and each other.

God has placed His punishment upon our sins.  The punishment is death.  The death of a person who has not placed his trust in God as his Savior has two stages – physical death and eternal death.

Physical death separates the soul from the body.

Eternal death separates a person from God in hell.

. . . and whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. . . . the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.  Revelation 20:13-15; 21:8

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:  Hebrews 9:27

All of us have an appointment with God.  He will be the judge of our life on earth.  It is possible for and earthly court to render an unfair judgment on some matter.

This will not be the case when we stand before God.  He knows everything about us.  All of our words, thoughts, actions, and even our attitudes will be judged by God Himself.  Only a sinless person could expect a verdict of “not guilty.”  Since the Bible has already declared us to be sinful, we have a serious problem.

For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.  Ecclesiastes 12:14

In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.  Romans 2:16

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, . . . Titus 3:5

Religion is man’s attempt to earn the favor of God.  Salvation is God’s free gift to save man from his sin.

We cannot save ourselves because any good thing that we could do cannot undo the bad that we have already done.  You may have the ability to quit a particular sin, but you will be a sinner until the day you die.  The Bible makes it clear that salvation is a gift of God’s grace to us, not a reward for man’s works for Him.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9

. . . that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.  Galatians 2:16

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
  Romans 5:8-9
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God,. . . 1 Peter 3:18

Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for all the sins of mankind: past, present, and future.  Jesus arose from the dead to prove that He was God in the flesh.  He also arose to demonstrate that He has the power over death, and that He alone has the power to give eternal life to all who will receive him.

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him 2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6

Jesus told us in John 14:6 that He is the only way to get to the Father in heaven.

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;  1 Timothy 2:5

Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Romans 6:23

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:  John 1:12

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  Romans 10:13

All who will recognize that they are lost in their sin and unable to save themselves can have God’s free gift of eternal life.  Christ lived the perfect life that we cannot live, then He took the punishment we deserve on the cross to pay the penalty for that sin.  If we repent and put our trust in Jesus, His righteousness will be credited to us.  God can legally commute our death sentence because justice was fulfilled on the cross.  It was the greatest gift ever given.  Will you receive it today?

If you would like to receive God’s free gift of salvation, you must place your faith in Jesus Christ as your only hope for salvation.  Cry out to God in prayer, confess all known sin to Him and ask for the forgiveness only available through His son Jesus Christ and repent (that is, turn away from) the sin in your life.  Read your bible daily and obey what you read.
